Where Do You Hold Your Web Site? |
|
Its hard trying to decide how much web space you
actually need, but often a 5-10MB space is more than sufficient to meet your
business needs. If you plan to incorporate lots of graphic images, large
databases, then obviously more web space will be required. There are basically two options: OWN
WEB SERVER -
Having your own web server is not a cheap option, it will cost several thousands,
just to buy as well the costs of maintenance. Not really an option unless you
are a large business. WEB
HOSTING -
Web hosting is the name given to companies that hold your web site on the
internet. There are two options
available, free and paid. Free
web hosting companies can prove useful if you want to simply provide an
information service on the internet. Most ISPs now offer some limited size web
hosting, however using these sites can loose their appeal as the your web site
will have extra advertising appearing on it (that’s why it’s free!). Most
free hosting services do charge you more money if your web site gets a lot of
hits, the price of fame! Paid
web hosting is what the name suggests you pay a fee annually or monthly for a
company to host your web site. The costs involved have fallen dramatically in
recent years, as the number of hosting companies, have risen dramatically. The
level of service does vary considerably. It is probably the most cost effective
way of launching your web site onto the internet So
how do you choose a web hosting service? You need to be sure that the hosting
service is offering you all the tools you need to successfully maintain a web
site. As we have already suggested getting a domain name sorted before you begin
launching a web site (most new web authoring software asks for your www.address
in its wizard), means you don’t have to pay for this feature twice! Checklist
