MAIN AREA OF STUDY

Taylor's work simply extended the work of Adam Smith in the sense that there existed an employee and employer relationship.

The logic of Taylor's work was:

  • People only work for money.

  • The amount of money given to employees is reflected in the amount of effort they put into work.

  • Emotional needs are not a reason why people come to work.

  • There is little conflict between the employee and employer.

CONCLUSIONS

At the time of it's conception, the work of Taylor was regarded as being highly logical, with the basic premise of people being motivated by money as being the main conclusion.

By modern standards the work of Taylor is seen as being outdated, but you have to remember Taylor was publishing his work at the turn of the industrial revolution and the emergence of the modern day mechanical factories.
