5S’s Pro's- Some of the benefits of the 5S’s include::
Ÿ
Reduced accidents as a result of a cleaner more tidier
environment.
Ÿ
A cleaner working environment, should result in employee morale
improving as work will not be viewed as being a ‘horrible place’.
Ÿ
Better inventory management should occur on the shopfloor as
operators will know exactly where the tools to complete jobs are. The 5S’s
would also mean WIP is visible on the shopfloor, this should lend itself to
improved output, reduced lead times and better customer satisfaction.
Ÿ
The 5S’s will mean improved discipline at work, in the sense
that the system establishes procedures against which we all work towards, this
should lend itself to better access to information.
Ÿ
Visitors to your business will see a more organised environment,
which should lend itself to increased potential orders, and thereby
profitability, stability and growth.
5S’s Cons- Not everything associated with 5S’s can be viewed as
being beneficial. If the logic of the 5S’s is not clearly understood by the
supervisors and managers responsible for implementing the 5S’s then the end
message received by employees could be seen as it’s a weekly/monthly clean up.
It will then become viewed as being a waste of time.
